NEDS IOM NEWS UPDATE
Island Recruitment Firms welcome launch of NEDS IOM
Following the successful launch and first 3 months of NEDS IOM, over half of the Island’s recruitment firms have been in touch to congratulate the initiative and offer their support as it grows into the leading place to find a NED. It has been very pleasing to receive such encouragement and support during this initial phase.
As NEDS IOM is a not for profit organisation, (and indeed currently makes no charge for its services), this support is welcomed. In fact, offers of greater help have had to be turned down so as not to cause any conflict within that important business sector. Similarly, support has been given by our many friends in the legal and accountancy professions, who also share the goal of strengthening our NED pool.
First NED Training event hosted
May 14th saw the first seminar hosted by NEDS IOM at the IOM Business School and proved to be a great success. In addition to running her own business, Jo is Head of Corporate Finance at MGR, and a tutor for the Institute of Directors Chartered Director course on both the Director & the Law and the Diploma course. Jo discussed why NEDS need to be up speed and informed so that they can deliver a true duty of care and skill, in a humorous and informing style, which had everyone's rapt attention. As this was the only day in the year Jo was able to join us, there was an inevitable clash with another event, but despite that almost 20 people were there for a very interesting call to being a NED in a professional and informed manner. Jo's 7 rules for NEDs were received very well and will remain in attendees minds for some time to come: especially rule number 6, which is to have your mobile off or silent and never answer it in Board meetings!
